IN THIS EPISODE, WE TALK ABOUT:
1. GUEST BIO – INTRODUCING NEETI PALTA
Neeti Palta is one of India’s favourite female comedian. Voted as the best Stand Up Comic at the Oz Fest in India, she was India’s first Stand Up to perform at Melbourne for the prestigious Melbourne Comedy Festival 2013. Starting out from advertising, Neeti moved to writing episodes for ‘Galli Galli Sim Sim’, when the popular children’s TV show ‘Sesame Street’ reached India. She did the show for four years until she volunteered for an improv sketch at the Colin Mochrie and Brad Sherwood show. And the rest, as they say, is history. She is currently co-hosting the Ghanta Awards, a travelling stand up comedy show that recognises and celebrates the worst in Bollywood films.
2. NEWS HIGHLIGHTS
The Panama Papers is one of the biggest data leaks in history. Over 11.5 million documents have been released to the public, blowing the lid off some of the world’s most powerful people and their offshore billions. Recently, John Oliver took a closer look at the companies incorporated by the Mossack Fonseca and he discovered among them Goldfinger, Golden Eye, Moon Raker, Spectre and Blofield, all famously associated with James Bond villains. Like that is not suspicious in any way.
Bono made headlines lately when he reassured a bemused US Senate subcommittee that he is serious about using comedians to humiliate ‘goose-stepping’ Isis with the power of laughter. The U2 singer proposed deploying Amy Schumer and Chris Rock to fight the terrorism. What ever happened to the innocent times when music was saving the world?
3. WANTED: FEMALE COMEDIANS
Neeti Palta recently released a new parody video called Wanted! Female Comedian, about the real life of a female comic around Women’s Day. Watch her video below.
We ask Neeti how she becomes a stand up comedian and if she is tired of being asked what are the challenges she faces as a female comedian in all her interviews. We discuss if female comedians can get away from the baggage that seems to come with their gender, double standards for male and female comedians, clients who want clean shows but hire Russian models to gyrate and more.
Will Neeti survive our infamous Rapidfire round?
